Moncrieff Pedestrian Bridge
Moncrieff, Australian Capital Territory – Constructed on behalf of the Suburban Land Agency (SLA), the scope of works included a series of connected trails / off-road paths for pedestrians, cyclists and emergency services. This included the installation of a bridge over Ginninderra Creek. Named the Wagi Bridge, communities from Moncrieff and Amaroo are now physically connected. Stretching 55 metres, this valuable piece of infrastructure gives people living on either side of the bridge the best of both suburbs, helping to boost access to businesses and social experiences on either side of the bridge. This also allows safe and easy access to the schools in the area.
Treadwell was engaged to supply the FRP grating for this bridge.
Project Challenges
- The total weight of the structure was a concern due to the area it was installed in.
- Selected material had to be compliant with relevant Australian standards and codes.
- Decking had to have an anti-slip surface as well as be high heel safe for user safety.

- Treadwell’s FRP products are tested and meet the relevant Australian compliance codes.
- The mesh openings on Treadwell’s GratEX® FRP Micro Mesh grating are tiny enough to be safe for high heels, while the surface provides a robust anti-slip surface.
- The mesh openings allow rain to fall through, to avoid the hazards of stagnant water on the surface.
- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
- Given the nature of FRP, any system utilising it is virtually maintenance free, keeping maintenance costs to a minimum.
