One of Tasmania’s most popular tourist destinations, Launceston offers food, wine, picturesque countryside views, rich history and unspoiled nature. Boasting century-old parks and Colonial and Victorian architecture, it is steeped in culture and art. Visitors can also go on wine tours in the Tamar Valley region or experience the diverse wildlife in the Tamar Island Wetlands. There are also many yacht and kayak activities along the Tamar River.
The existing pontoon used by water activities clubs needed to be replaced. Treadwell was engaged to provide the grating and related fasteners for this pontoon.
Project Challenges
- The materials for this floating structure had to be lightweight to maintain buoyancy.
- Structure would be subject to wave loading and needed to be resilient in such conditions.
- The structure would need to remain robust while being exposed to the outdoor marine environment and be able to accommodate heavy foot traffic.
