Dip Falls Viewing Platform and Access
Dip Falls Viewing Platform and Access
Located in the north-west region of Tasmania, this forest reserve is home to a beautiful cascade waterfall. As there was no existing formal viewing platform at the base of the falls, visitors had to stand on wet, mossy rocks to enjoy the stunning views. Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service decided that visitor safety and experience needed to be improved, and deemed that a viewing platform with safe access had to be installed.
Treadwell was engaged to provide the decking of the viewing platform as well as the stair treads that led to it.no
Project Challenges
- The remote location of the reserve meant that construction material had to be easily maneuvered to the work site, due to its limited accessibility.
- Being in a constantly wet outdoor environment, the material had to have high non-slip properties to ensure user safety.
- Maintenance costs were a concern as the structure would be installed in an area prone to organic build up.

Treadwell Products :
- EX-Series® GratEX® FRP Mini Mesh Grating & Stair Treads
Treadwell Solution
- EX-Series® GratEX® FRP Mini Mesh Grating was specified in building the structure as a preferred solution over traditional materials.
- EX-Series® Stair Treads are moulded with solid edge nosing as a joint single component. This increases the rigor and sturdiness of the entire leading edge, ensuring dependable performance in high traffic situations.
- The aperture in the grating panels allow for debris to fall through and discourages organic build up, while maintaining optimum non-slip properties.
- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
- Being lightweight and easy to install, FRP is very manageable during construction.
- Given the nature of FRP, any system utilising it is virtually maintenance free, keeping maintenance costs to a minimum.
