Horsetail Falls Boardwalk
Horsetail Falls Boardwalk
Horsetail Falls, Tasmania – The hills here are unnaturally, yet beautifully stained from the mining, copper smelting and large-scale mining excavations of the past. To boost tourism in the area, the Tasmanian government built a walking track to Horsetail Falls. This stepped boardwalk clings to a steep hillside, to bring you to a viewing platform. Visitors get to experience a side-on view of the massive falls pouring out of Morse Creek, Queenstown’s mountains and the oceans beyond.
Treadwell was engaged to supply the grating for this boardwalk.
Project Challenges
- Grating had to be lightweight for easy transportation and installation due to the remote location.
- The grating had to have a robust anti-slip surface for user safety.
- Corrosion resistance, long lifespan and minimal maintenance were key considerations.
Project Information
Project Category: Recreational Public Infrastructure
Scope of Work: Supply FRP grating
Treadwell Products :
- EX-Series® GratEX® FRP Mini Mesh Grating
Treadwell Solution
- Being lightweight, FRP grating minimises the weight loading impact on the surroundings. Heavy machinery is also not required to transport the materials to site, and it can be easily installed with hand tools.
- GratEX® FRP grating is constructed with a grit surface to provide robust anti-slip properties.
- Treadwell’s FRP products are constructed from premium quality resin systems that include corrosion resistant properties and UV inhibitors, making it ideal for this outdoor application.
- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
- Given the nature of FRP, any system utilising it is virtually maintenance free, keeping maintenance costs to a minimum.
