Palm Cove Boardwalk
Palm Cove Boardwalk
Palm Cove is a destination for beach holidays and weddings. A typical beach village boasting resorts, holiday homes and conference venues; it is a tropical hub receiving tourists and visitors all year round.
In view of the bustling activity, a boardwalk needed to be installed on the beach to facilitate ease of access for visitors and council equipment, as well as to protect the natural beach environment. Treadwell was engaged to provide a decking solution that would meet all the requirements.
Project Challenges
- Was specifically required to be heel safe to accommodate all users.
- The decking had to be engineered to accommodate a relatively heavy small street sweeper.
- Needed to be corrosion resistant being exposed in a coastal environment.
- Had to withstand harsh outdoor environmental conditions.
- Had to be lightweight to negate any impact to the natural sand foundation.

Treadwell Products :
- EX-Series® GridEX®
Treadwell Solution
- High performance GridEX® FRP Grating was specified as a sustainable solution over traditional materials.
- GridEX® has a hard-wearing anti-slip surface and small aperture to make it heel safe, while allowing debris to fall through.
- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
- Being lightweight and easy to install, FRP is very manageable during construction.
- Given the nature of FRP, any system utilising it is virtually maintenance free, thus keeping maintenance costs at a minimum.
