West Camden Sewage Treatment Plant

Sydney, NSW – West Camden Sewage Treatment Plant is a Sydney Water facility located in New South Wales, servicing wastewater treatment for the surrounding region. As part of ongoing site upgrades, the project required improved odour control across key process areas, with a focus on efficient installation and minimal site disruption.

Treadwell was engaged by Downer BMD based on a strong history of working together on several projects. The team sought a single provider to deliver the odour control scope end to end. The project started with SureLine® Heavy Duty covers before evolving into a lift‑in / lift‑out solution mounted on a custom L‑Beam pultrusion system. This approach enabled approximately 1,500 sqm of covers to be installed over the balance tank area within two days. Treadwell also supplied all odour ducting, with the installation completed without the need for on‑site fibreglass connections.

Project Challenges

Speed of installation was critical to minimise disruption to operations and reduce time on site.
The existing tank had no covers. The plant had implemented new processes which required a complete odour containment solution to be designed and installed.
The presence of corrosive gases, including hydrogen sulphide, creates a harsh operating environment, requiring materials that are both highly corrosion resistant and durable for long-term performance.
It was key that this had to be a long-term solution, without needing regular repairs and replacements.

Treadwell Solution

Treadwell FRP is lightweight, allowing for faster installation and reduced transport and handling costs, particularly on large-scale sites.
EcoEX™ SureLine® HD covers are manufactured from premium-quality resins with reinforced membranes, creating an airtight hydraulic seal that effectively contains odours and prevents their release.
The corrosion-resistant nature of FRP makes the system virtually maintenance free, delivering long-term performance in harsh, odorous environments.
A custom L-Beam pultrusion system was developed to create full lift-in / lift-out covers, with integrated lifting points built into the perimeter beam, allowing the panels to be safely and efficiently installed and removed without additional site modifications.
The SureLine® HD system can be configured with a range of inspection, maintenance and access hatches, including options with integrated safety grates.
Designed for operational access, the panels are trafficable and strong enough to support handrails, improving safety for maintenance personnel.
