A trip to Coles Bay and Freycinet National Park is not complete without visiting Freycinet Lodge. Featuring environmentally friendly cabins, visitors are able to immerse themselves in the captivating views while they experience nature without sacrificing their creature comforts.
To protect the delicate environment, the cabins and pavilions are linked by raised boardwalks. Treadwell was engaged to supply the grating for these boardwalks.
Project Challenges
- Material had to remain robust while being permanently exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
- Installation should not disrupt the natural flora and fauna of the park.
- Decking had to be heel safe to accommodate users.

- GratEX® FRP grating is constructed from premium resins, with corrosion resistant properties, UV inhibitors and fire-retardant additives, making it ideal for this outdoor application.
- The tiny aperture of the micro mesh grating is high heel safe, with an anti-slip surface, providing optimal user safety.
- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
- Being lightweight and easy to install, FRP is very manageable during construction.
- Given the nature of FRP, any system utilising it is virtually maintenance free, keeping maintenance costs to a minimum.
