Pontoon Installation
Designed to move with the tides, pontoons are increasingly becoming the structure of choice over permanently fixed jetties. The council at this bay in Tasmania made the decision that a pontoon needed to be installed. This pontoon would be widely used by the surrounding yacht and canoe clubs, as well as the local community for their water activities.
Treadwell was engaged to supply the material as well as assist on design matters to build and install this pontoon.
Project Challenges
- Materials for this floating structure had to be lightweight to maintain buoyancy.
- Structure would be subject to wave loading and needed to be resilient in such conditions.
- There were concerns on deterioration and corrosion of the material as it would be permanently exposed to the outdoor marine environment.

- Being lightweight and easy to install, FRP is very manageable during construction.
- Given the nature of FRP, any system utilising it is virtually maintenance free, keeping maintenance costs to a minimum.
