Myponga Trestle Bridges
Myponga Trestle Bridges
The Myponga Reserve is a reservoir in South Australia about 60km south of Adelaide. It provides about 5% of the City of Adelaide’s water supply. As part of the rejuvenation of access for personnel to maintain the pipeline, SA Water deemed that the deteriorated and unsafe wooden walkway needed to be replaced.
Project Challenges
- Large spans between the trestles.
- Walkway had to be installed 10m above ground level.
- Panels had to be trimmed to exact size.
- Panels had to be lightweight and easy to handle to address manoeuvrability constraints on the trestles.
Project Information
Project Category: Safe access for pipeline maintenance
Scope of Work: Design and install safe walkway

Treadwell Solution
- Treadwell’s EX-Series® GridEX® FRP grating was specified to meet the load and span requirements.
- EX-Series® GridEX® is durable and is able to withstand the harsh outdoor environment.
- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
- Being lightweight and easy to install, FRP is very manageable during construction.
- Given the nature of FRP, any system utilising it is virtually maintenance free, thus keeping maintenance costs as low as possible.
