Watarrka National Park
Watarrka National Park
Watarrka National Park encompasses the George Gill Range as well as Kings Canyon. A protected area of natural beauty, the national park is located on the same orange expanse of desert as Uluru. With native flora and fauna naturally sheltered within the sheer rock faces, the splendor of this park is best experienced on foot.
To allow visitors to learn more about the heritage of the land of the park, and also provide a safe viewing and resting point, a viewing platform was installed. Treadwell was engaged to supply the decking for this structure.
Project Challenges
- Nature of the location meant that installation had to be done without the use of heavy machinery.
- Outdoor installation meant that progress was dependent on weather conditions.
- Installation had to be done without any heat or hot works related methods, due to nature of the surroundings.
Project Information
Project Category: Recreational Public Infrastructure
Scope of Work: Supply FRP grating
Treadwell Products :
- EX-Series® GratEX® FRP Micro Mesh Grating
Treadwell Solution
- EX-Series® GratEX® FRP Micro Mesh grating was specified as the preferred solution for the decking over traditional materials.
- Micro Mesh grating provides the benefits of a solid top surface, while the small apertures allow rain and other small debris to fall through, reducing the risk build-up.
- Treadwell’s FRP products are constructed with fire retardants and UV inhibitors, making it ideal for this outdoor application.
- FRP is simply fabricated and modified on site. This means there is no need for any hot works permit.
- Being lightweight and easy to install, FRP is very manageable during construction.
- Given the nature of FRP, any system utilizing it is virtually maintenance free, keeping maintenance costs to a minimum.
