Treadwell FRP Handrails Retrofitted On Offshore Oil Rig

Treadwell’s RailEX® FRP handrails offer a range of advantages that make them the superior choice for oil rig applications, where safety, durability, and efficiency are paramount. Their lightweight nature ensures ease of transportation and installation, significantly reducing labour costs and installation time compared to traditional materials like steel. Additionally, their low-maintenance properties mean that operators can rely on long-term performance, making them a cost-effective investment in the long run.

One of the standout features of FRP handrails is its unique surface protection. Treadwell RailEX® handrails have a specially formulated surface treatment that minimises the risk of glass fibres exposure. Constructed with UV inhibitor properties, RailEX® handrails withstand challenging offshore conditions, where surfaces are frequently exposed to moisture, salt spray, and oil residue. Furthermore, FRP is RF transparent and non-conductive, making it an ideal choice for subsea structures where electromagnetic interference must be minimised, and electrical safety is a concern. These characteristics contribute to improved operational efficiency and safety for personnel working in high-risk environments.

Most importantly, FRP products have been proven to be the optimal material for use in corrosive open-sea environments. Unlike steel, which is highly susceptible to rust and degradation due to constant exposure to saltwater and harsh weather conditions, FRP remains unaffected by these elements. Its inherent resistance to corrosion ensures a prolonged service life, reducing the need for maintenance and replacement while maintaining structural integrity over time. As a result, FRP continues to be the preferred solution for offshore and marine applications where reliability and longevity are essential.
